Oil Well Update, May 2012
We have received a reply from the ERCB pertaining to our legal submission. The legal submission was based upon documentation that demonstrated bias on behalf of the ERCB employee and was outside the ERCB mandate. The ERCB ruled, that this documentation and conduct was not part of the actual application therefore, they do not consider this material in terms of influencing the board’s decision of approving the Kaiser application.
We are disappointed with the ERCB board’s decision and still support the submission had merit. The likelihood of the the ERCB making a decision against themselves is minimal and this only supports the necessity of having an advocate. On the second half of the submission, The ERCB forwarded new issues to Kaiser for reply by May 24th, 2012. We then have an opportunity to reply back by June 07th, 2012.
Our newly elected Calgary North-West MLA Sandra Jansen has committed to introducing a Private Member bill to create an Urban drilling policy. Additionally, Ken Hughes is now replacing Ted Morton as the new Energy Minister.
We encourage everyone opposing the oil well to write Minister Ken Hughes asking him to review the entire process of the Kaiser oil well, revoke the licence and implement an Urban drilling policy. Ken Hughes email:

Please Donate to the Royal Oak School Playground Project |

It’s been well over a year since the grand opening of Royal Oak School, but sadly, its students still don’t have a playground to play on. Why? It costs an astounding $175,000 to $250,000 to construct an average school playground structure in Alberta. Neither the CBE nor the City of Calgary provide direct funding for the development of school playgrounds, so fundraising falls to the community in which the school resides.
RRROCA is proud to support the ongoing efforts of the Royal Oak Playground Committee volunteers who’ve been working hard to fundraise and plan for this project. So far they’ve raised just over $73,000 from residents and local businesses. As soon as their $100,000 goal is met, they will apply for a matching grant from the provincial government. With a little luck and a final callout for support, let’s make sure ROS students have a fantastic new playground in September 2012!

New West Community Rec Centre |

While the new recreation centre will not be up and running for some time yet, progress is being made, and the Northwest Community Advisory Group continues to work closely with The City to ensure the needs of our area are being met. The Northwest CAG currently has representatives from the communities of Citadel, Edgemont, Royal Oak, Rocky Ridge, Scenic Acres, Hamptons and Valley Ridge. We are looking for residents of additional Northwest Communities to assist us.
